The Blu Moon Bistro is a true family business, opening our doors on April Fools Day, 2008. We moved to Ludington from the Outer Banks of North Carolina (Marilyn, and Lillë) and from Sault Ste. Marie (Jordan and Jason). Originally, we were a quaint, eclectic coffeehouse and café serving up breakfast and lunch with coffee from Alaska!

We have since purchased a liquor license, added our bar and expanded twice! We bought Reuch’s Jewelers (next door to us) in 2010, literally knocked a “hole” through our brick wall and opened the “New Moon” nearly doubling our seating. The summer of 2012 brought our newest expansion, the opening of our rooftop deck “Over the Moon”. The open-air eatery offers a unique alternative to our original dining rooms. The al fresco menu offers up casual grill options as well as sushi and fresh oysters. A full bar is available on all levels of our establishment.
Our Chef, Jason Munford, is French trained and earned his certification in Breckenridge and Keystone, Colorado. Jason is married to Jordan who is the daughter of Marilyn. Together Marilyn, (Lille,16) Jason and Jordan, (Dominic, 5) and new daughter, Jezabel Joesephine (1) own and operate the Bistro; it is truly a family affair. Marilyn brings 30 years of Retail and Management to the table. Jordan earned a Business Management degree from Lake Superior University before becoming a partner at the Blu Moon.
We have evolved into a bistro serving brunch, lunch and dinner during the bustling summer season and serving dinner only during the “quiet season.” We specialize in fusion cuisine, which is a marriage of many different flavors. Here, our menu is mostly influenced by Japanese and French cuisine and techniques. We serve fresh, hand rolled sushi and wide variety of entrees, all unique. All of our delicious desserts are made in house and can be ordered “whole” by calling in advance
The Blu Moon prides itself in making food that we love to enjoy and eat. We like to say its a Fusion of our travels and tastes over the years and that it is a mash of great contempory dining; serving quality food in a unique atmosphere and we believe in extraordinary yet personal service. We use sustainable products where appropriate and always strive to use local ingredients whenever possible. We don’t serve fast food but we serve fabulous food that we make from scratch right here in our kitchen. Please don’t come in a hurry…come to enjoy your total experience.

Our Chef " I have cooked at alot of places and finally get to cook whatever I want, so are menu is funky and ever changing!"
Chef Jason Munford started cooking in the mid 90's for the original Breckenrige Brewery in Colorado, as a Line Cook. He was also cooking and preping at Rosco's Trattoria in Breckenridge and was soon to become an apprentice for Colorado Mountain College Culinary Arts and ACF Certification Program.  He was apprenticing at the largest conference center in the Rocky Mountains, then rotating around the resort at Keystone Colorado where he continued to work at the Garden Room, a 3 Diamond triple AAA and Big Horn Steak House, Raspberries at the Inn Hotel, and finally at the Alpen Glo Stube which was the highest 4 Diamond restaurant in North America at the time.  Jason then moved back home to Grand Haven, Michigan to become Executive Chef at Snug Harbor, followed by Chef de Cuisine at Kewaden Casino in Sault Ste Marie and continuing education Certificate at Tyson University in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Jason is now Executive Chef and Partner at the Blu Moon Bistro here in Ludington.
